"This series of painted and drawn images is a project initiated by the artist Yann Lesacher, a sort of visual record of everything one might encounter when setting out to walk the GR 34, the long-distance hiking trail that circles the coast of Brittany.
A sort of ‘travel journal’, somewhere between a pastiche and a tribute to the passing of life, this project has been running for 15 years and to date only 60% of the route has been covered, or around 1,400 km.
Humour plays a significant role; it is in the author’s nature, but it also serves to avoid the trap of artistic seriousness; this deliberate lack of seriousness allows him to move away from an art that is all too often elitist towards a more popular and universal form of art.
It is the chance encounters along the way that serve as a guiding thread and source of inspiration; no particular theme is really chosen, for as Yann likes to point out: “Life is far more creative than I am”.
This journey is still ongoing and these pages continue to take shape… A collection comprising 13 volumes is currently being published by “Éditions de Dahouët” under the title: “Une Bretagne par les contours”. You can find these pages on social media under the name Yann Lesacher.”
A chat with the artist Yann Lesacher, on Friday 24 July at 6.30 pm.
