Performance – W.a.t.e.r.l.o.g
Exhibition, Show
- As part of the W.A.T.E.R.L.O.G. exhibition, which runs from 1 to 31 May 2026: Born in the context of post-storm Ciarán, W.A.T.E.R.L.O.G. (Ways of Acting Through Ecological Repair, Local Observation and Gestures. A project approved as part of the "Interdisciplinary Incubation" call for projects issued by the Maison des sciences humaines et sociales en Bretagne (MSHB), W.A.T.E.R.L.O.G. uses the felled trees as a basis for situated research into forms of resilience, transformation and collective creation. Conceived as a platform for research and creation, it uses gesture, experimentation and fabrication as modes of enquiry as much as forms of artistic production. At the crossroads of art, design, craft skills, experimental archaeology and environmental anthropology, the project deploys an interdisciplinary and immersive method, rooted in the direct experience of materials, sites and the temporalities they condense. Here, archaeology is used not as a means of reconstruction but as a way of reading traces: a way of observing, in the material, the clues to a gesture, a possible use, a form in abeyance. Conceived as a contemporary cabinet of curiosities, the exhibition brings together objects resulting from the sculpting, listening and transformation of wood. Between relics, tools, fragments and artefacts with no assigned function, these forms form an ambiguous whole, at once familiar and enigmatic, as if they had come from prospective excavations, while at the same time conjuring up imaginary images linked to the ritual object, the technical artefact, or certain genealogies of modern sculpture and abstraction. Some evoke organic forms, masks or accessories; all bear the traces of cutting, digging, hollowing out or charring. - Performance on 23 May 2026: During the festival, a window on the Pont de Rohan (13 rue du Pont) will host an exhibition of sculpted forms and video recordings from W.a.t.e.r.l.o.g.'s immersive worksites. In the centre, the video reveals these operations and reminds us that the exhibition is not just presenting finished objects, but the active remains of a process where material, tool, body and time act together. This performance presents the dugout canoe that will be activated, in connection with the river Elorn.
