GR® de Pays de la Presqu’île de Crozon
The nature reserve
Located at the very tip of Finistère between Brest harbour and Douarnenez Bay, the Crozon Peninsula is an extraordinary refuge for biodiversity and rather like an open-air museum for geology. Set off for eight days to explore the Crozon Peninsula and discover its geological treasures and breathtaking landscapes!
The Crozon Peninsula, a remarkable geology
A true archive of our planet’s history, the Crozon Peninsula is home to some remarkable geology, from its landscapes and outcrops to fossils and sedimentary features, all bearing witness to the various changes in life and climate. Taking a tour of the Crozon Peninsula on the GR® de Pays de la Presqu’île de Crozon coastal path will lead you around 27 sites of geological interest in the nature reserve, with its remarkable geodiversity and biodiversity. Stop off at the Maison des Minéraux (mineral museum) for a colourful journey through the land of rocks and minerals!
Extraordinary landscapes
Aside from its remarkable geology, Crozon’s landscapes are equally amazing. Walking the GR® de Pays de la Presqu’île de Crozon coastal path grants you fabulous views of the sea and its magnificent beaches with translucent waters set against a backdrop of pine trees, moorland and heather. You’ll find yourself marvelling at the breathtaking views from the cliffs that have been sculpted over time, such as the Tas de Pois at Pointe de Pen-Hir and Cap de la Chèvre. A guaranteed escape for the hustle and bustle!
A location that has played a strategic role over many centuries
Here on the Crozon Peninsula, you’ll see some of France’s most diverse fortifications. As you walk along, you’ll be surprised by the multitude of watchtowers, batteries and forts. In the narrow waters around Brest, the most iconic and symbolic fortification is the Tour Vauban. Commissioned by French architect Vauban under Louis XIV, it has witnessed over 300 years of history and was classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013. Visit the tower to learn more about its history through the displays inside.
