Le Fort was built in 1862 under Napoléon III. The defensive coastal structure had room for men, horses and cannon but it was used for a very short time and was eventually purchased by the local council in 1990. Today between June and September it is an exhibition venue for contemporary artists who live in or come from the region.

The Fort can be hired out from September to June. From June to September, it welcomes contemporary artists who offer exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, photographs and installations.
