Founded in 1901 by the industrialist Jean-Marie Vallière des Filières, the only canning factory in Loctudy enjoyed its golden age under the management of Alexis Le Gall, the son of a family of canners originally from Douarnenez. He made the Loctudy factory his main family business from 1919 to 1954. The Musée de la conserverie Alexis Le Gall is both a museum of society and a collector of memories, dedicated to the history of the workers as well as to that of the great families who owned the canneries in southern Brittany. It sees itself as a potential agitator of identities, while aiming to preserve this heritage, which was listed as a Historic Monument in 2016. The Conserverie Alexis Le Gall is the last witness to an extraordinary Breton history: the adventure of canned fish! This industry was born in the 19th century and is still very much alive in the Pays Bigouden. This site will tell you all about this industrial and human epic, to the rhythm of the arrival of the fish and the ringing of the factory bell! This new cultural facility in the Pays Bigouden is one of only three of its kind in Europe. Special themed events, children's workshops and temporary exhibitions. Guided tours of the museum can be booked by telephone or e-mail. The Musée de la conserverie is also a great place to organise your company seminars, meetings or team building events. The manor house, which was the home of the Le Gall family from the 1920s onwards, can be adapted to suit your needs and accommodate 20 people. The first floor is reserved for corporate seminars and comprises 3 rooms: the main room, a relaxation area and a kitchenette. The garden can be used for speeches or cocktails to be shared with your guests or employees. Accessibility: The reception, the shop and all the exhibition rooms are on one level and accessible to people with reduced mobility. The museum courtyard between the family home and the factory is on a slope. There is a gentle slope for wheelchairs. Only one of the two toilets is accessible to people with reduced mobility. A standard grab bar has been installed near the toilet, and the room has sufficient turning space for wheelchair users. Comfort for people with reduced mobility Chairs are available in each of the museum's exhibition rooms. Benches are also available in the museum courtyard. A folding chair can be provided on request at the museum entrance. The patio for rest and relaxation: the patio can be made available to mentally handicapped groups or groups of residents from nursing homes or day hospitals, so that they can enjoy some quiet time before, during or after their visit to the museum. Mental disability: a practical information guide is available. Motor disabilities: parking spaces for people with reduced mobility are available close to the museum, in the rue du Port (93 to 95 m). To facilitate access to the museum for people with reduced mobility, their companions can use the drop-off point at the end of the impasse du nord or at the entrance to the impasse (56 m.). Hearing impaired: The audio-guide is equipped with a magnetic loop for the hearing impaired. Multimedia content is subtitled in French and English. Visually impaired: Guide dogs are allowed in the museum. Inside the factory, the sounds and bright lights of the staging may disturb people with visual and/or auditory sensitivities.
