The salon opera conceived in 1904 by Pauline Viardot reveals its full richness here. A leading figure in 19th-century musical life, the composer had already imbued Perrault’s fairy tale with unexpected depth, weaving in reflections on the stages of life and the vagaries of fate. David Lescot now offers a lively and theatrical interpretation. With Jérémie Arcache’s pop arrangement, brought to life by a high-energy instrumental ensemble led by pianist Bianca Chillemi, this rare operetta – suitable for the whole family – brims with freshness and humour.
