‘Fortress of the Counts of Cornouaille and the Dukes of Brittany’

The castle, perched on a ‘mountain’, is a little-known fortress of which only a few remains are left. Its construction dates back to the year 1000 and is attributed to Count Budic.

His descendants settled in Quimper, founded Quimperlé Abbey and became Dukes of Brittany. The castle played a strategic role during the wars of the 11th to 14th centuries before being abandoned in the 15th century.

The guided tour of the ruins is led by Patrick Kernevez, a lecturer and researcher at the University of Quimper (UBO), and offers an insight into the history and appearance of this monument.


The talk – exploring the castle ruins – is part of the ‘Causons patrimoine’ programme organised by the Brittany region.
