Michalove combine their trance music – the ethereal sounds of the handpan, tank drum, double bass and accordion – with the world of traditional songs. They draw their inspiration mainly from Ukrainian polyphonic chants, but also from songs from various regions of Poland. In 2019, the Michalove trio won first place at the ‘Mikolajki Folkowe’ Music Festival and, in 2022, second prize and the Polish Radio I Programme Award at the ‘Nouvelle Tradition’ Festival. In January 2023, the group released their debut album, ‘Rano’.

Michalove is a family: the Terefenko sisters, Ania and Justyna, and Kuba Bryzgalski, Justyna’s husband. They come from the village of Michalowo in Central Pomerania. Their ancestors came from various regions of Poland. Enchanted by the beauty and richness of traditional Ukrainian songs, they are rediscovering their cultural identity through song. The traditional ‘white singing’ technique they use is based on vocal polyphony. This style of singing encourages the search for the deepest and most authentic harmonies.
