*Dérailler* is the story of a train journey in which the audience is taken along, a journey that will not go as planned, for there is a grain – of sand, of madness – in the works. It is the story of the exhilarating and tormented journey of a Quixote on the TGV Inouï and her Panza. It is the story of a Passenger’s disrupted journey: ‘It’s not just the traffic that’s disrupted!’.

The locomotive hasn’t been steam-powered for a long time, but the pressure is rising, slowly but surely, in the driver’s cab; she is the sole person responsible for these thousands of tonnes of metal and technology, solely responsible for the lives of these hundreds of passengers. ‘Ladies and gentlemen, our train has come to a halt on the track.’

What is derailing? Who is derailing? Are we free to leave the tracks? What happens when things go off the rails?

Amidst an invigorating commotion, passengers and ticket inspectors are called to account: is the mad one always the other person? What about me? Am I – or do I feel – really that normal?
