Ciné-rencontre La Restanza

Screening of the film *La Restanza* (Be-It) by Alessandra Coppola, with the director in attendance for a discussion following the film. Co-organised with the Mamm Douar association, as part of Festisol and Documentary Month.

Castiglione d’Otranto, southern Italy. A group of thirty-somethings are no longer willing to accept that the only solution to the region’s economic, ecological and political problems is always to ‘leave’. They propose to the villagers that they pool their plots of fallow land. They therefore decide to stay, to tie their lives to the land and to invest in one value: being together. Castiglione becomes the village of ‘restance’. Here, they cultivate heirloom seeds and local biodiversity, make decisions together and develop a local economy.

A film full of hope that shows how, collectively, we can unlock a place’s untapped potential and create a sustainable way of life.
