Encre Quatuor : Or + Us

A romantic dialogue between machines and instruments: this show presents a hybrid form in which electronic music is reinvented live through the performers’ playing.

Founded in the late 1990s by Yann Tambour, Encre envisioned an ‘unlikely orchestra’, blending subtle orchestral samples with the dissonances and noise-based elements of musique concrète. Twenty years on, the project is revived as a quartet featuring Maëlle Desbrosses, Julien Pontvianne and Amélie Grould: a mirrored work that transposes, using instruments, a composition originally conceived for machines. Clarinet, percussion, bells and harmonium give substance to these elements in an ever-shifting score. From this sonic mise en abîme emerges a playful and spectral musical language.
