Exposition à Pénanault : “L’habitat dans tous ses états”
Exhibition
Looking at twentieth-century housing in the Morlaix region means examining the architectural heritage of our everyday landscape, which is highly varied, whether in town, in the countryside or by the sea. At every turn of the century, new ways of living reflect changes in society.
Seaside tourism led to the construction of villas, the rural exodus spawned the first urban housing estates, and collective housing responded to the post-war housing crisis. In addition, the Morlaix region is no exception to the Breton attachment to individual housing, with its mix of modest detached houses and exceptional homes.
Twentieth-century housing was a veritable field of innovation and experimentation, with styles and influences ranging from local stone and reinforced concrete to revisited wood, all bearing the signature of renowned local architects. It's up to you to recognise them!
