The exhibition is inspired by Tektite II, a scientific mission carried out in the Caribbean in 1970. For the first time, a team made up entirely of women lived and worked for several days in an underwater station. This all-female group remained, however, under male supervision and was subject to constant monitoring. What happened when they finally escaped these watchful eyes? What did they talk about? What bonds could they forge with the creatures living around them in the depths? For the occasion, the Maison de la Fontaine is transformed into a wet room, the airlock connecting the underwater station to the ocean.

In this environment where nothing ever really dries out, where objects ooze, even our own skin seems to grow clammy; a memory of a sweltering summer. The space becomes a strange place, suspended between two worlds, where the boundaries between humans, aquatic life and equipment gradually blur. Through this immersive experience, we explore ways of resisting, disappearing or communicating differently within a confined and controlled space. The exhibition invites us to plunge into the depths of our imaginations, where all rumours and confidences can be entrusted to the moray eels…

Extend your visit by slipping into the bodies of plankton near the Tanguy Tower!
At the foot of the Tanguy Tower, head-through panels invite visitors to slip their faces into life-size plankton, echoing the motifs found on the exhibition’s windows. Drawing on the conventions of tourist attractions, Ines Dobelle invites passers-by to step into the shoes of another species by striking a pose.
