JEP : Visite commentée “kanndi restauré”
National day
A remarkable example of the flax-processing industry in the Monts d’Arrée.
All that remained of the ‘kanndi’ at Rozonoual (a flax-washing house) was a pile of stones overgrown with vegetation, concealing the washing vats and the basin. It was rebuilt in the traditional manner by volunteers from the Lichen association, without altering the original interior fittings. The washhouse was used by washerwomen right up until the 1970s.
It features all the traditional elements of a flax washhouse: a fireplace for heating water drawn from the nearby river, a stone tub for washing the flax in hot water, and a spring that feeds an indoor basin with running water for rinsing with clear water.
Guided tour by the Lichen Association.
