Following *Le Cid*, Corneille wrote an autobiographical comedy: *Le Menteur* (1644). It centres on Dorante, a young man who invents a life for himself to find his place in a world where appearances are everything. This baroque comedy, peppered with lies and misunderstandings, is an ode to the imagination and inventiveness.
