Full. Based in Saint-Pol-de-Léon, at the heart of Brittany’s vegetable and horticultural region, the Caté experimental station carries out applied research programmes into fresh vegetables, ornamental horticulture and cultivated mushrooms.

This work, carried out at regional, national and European levels, addresses the challenges faced by industry professionals and responds to changing consumption patterns. It focuses in particular on reducing pesticide use, mitigating climate change, innovation and the development of new production solutions.

The station works in partnership with the Regional Chambers of Agriculture of Brittany, as well as with numerous recognised stakeholders in the sector, such as Prince de Bretagne, SAVÉOL, SOLARENN, Le Potager de Jade, Kérisnel and Armor Végétal.

A visit to one of the Caté centres offers a practical insight into how research supports producers and helps shape the production methods of the future.

This year, the visit will take place at the station’s ‘diversification mushrooms’ centre. There, you will discover a range of mushrooms distinct from the traditional button mushroom, renowned for their numerous organoleptic, nutritional and medicinal qualities.

The tour will provide an insight into the various stages of their production, from the selection of the variety and substrate right through to climate control and growing conditions. You will also learn about the experiments currently being carried out by the station on these mushrooms, as well as the challenges and prospects for diversifying this production.
