In the 19th century, although forgotten by industrialisation and the railway, Guerlesquin underwent an architectural revival: a new church, modern market halls and urban development underlined the vitality of the market town. Affected by the rural exodus between the wars, in the 1960s the town banked on an industrial self-revolution, as well as cultural and heritage pride, thus embarking on a change of direction that other communes in inland Brittany failed to take.
