Calvary and parish nclosures, Church
Among the parish enclosures in the area, the enclosure at Tréflévénez stands out and is surprising when compared with the pomp and sumptuousness of its neighbours in the Léon region.
And yet, this country church conceals treasures that are unsuspected at first glance and found nowhere else.
On entering the grounds, there is no monumental doorway, just a simple calvary (1901), and no complete ossuary (1611), just the façade, which was only just saved and integrated into a dwelling house. Even Saint-Pierre church, built at the end of the 15th century in late Gothic style (and altered many times over the centuries), has a modest exterior.
All the majesty of this atypical place is felt as soon as you enter the church. The delicate colours of blue and white, with touches of gold, suggest serenity. The apparent simplicity is the setting for some real treasures.
The 16th-century sandals depict the most astonishing popular scenes and parables. On the wall, a painting of the Crucifixion (1696) was unearthed when the rosary altarpiece was removed.
Nearby, the 1677 tomb bears witness to Hamon Huon de Kerezellec's love for his deceased son.
Last but not least, the Way of the Cross, created in 2005 by Romanian artist Valentin Scarlatescu, is well worth a visit.
