History, Maritime, Lighthouse
At 37 metres high, the Trezien lighthouse lights up the open sea for up to 32 km. Up there, you'll be between heaven and earth, gazing at the coast and sea as you've never seen them before! Built in 1894 and automated a century later, it stands 500 m from the shore in the commune of Plouarzel at the tip of North Finistère. Standing 37.20 metres high, it stoically watches over the southern entrance to the Chenal du Four. This channel is the main navigation route for heavy tonnage boats that dare to sail between the islands and the mainland. You can get as close as possible to its lantern, whose directional light illuminates the high seas up to 32 km off the coast. Take your time to climb the 182 steps that wind their way up the granite ashlar masonry tower from Aber Ildut. You'll have access to a fantastic panorama from the Saint-Mathieu lighthouse to the Le Four lighthouse, from the islands of the Mer d'Iroise to the tip of Corsen where the regional maritime rescue centre, Cross Corsen, is located.
