GR® de Pays du Cap Sizun

Around the Land’s End of France

Come and walk around the incredible Pointe du Raz, recognised as a ‘Grand Site de France’ in the westernmost tip of Brittany known as the Cap Sizun. It’s a six-day adventure at the very edge of the world, and if you’re a lover of nature and breathtaking panoramas, you’re in for a real treat!

From coastal point to coastal point, you’ll be bowled over by the unique spirit of this legendary site!

On the GR® de Pays du Cap Sizun, from the bustling port of Audierne, head for the mythical Pointe du Raz in Finistère. Even as you arrive partway at Primelin’s cove of Le Loch, you’ll already be treated to a spectacular seascape, and from here your path leads you straight to the Pointe du Raz. Situated on the crashing waters of the ‘Raz de Sein’, the photogenic Pointe du Raz is a dramatic coastal point overlooking the Atlantic, the island of Ile de Sein and a series of lighthouses that watch over these waters.

Pick up your pace to reach the surf spot of Baie des Trépassés, then Saint-They Chapel on the Pointe du Van, a more intimate promontory with equally extraordinary views. As you continue along the high cliffs to the north of Cap Sizun, your eyes will take in a succession of rocky spurs with stunning views over Douarnenez Bay. You can also make out the Pointe de Pen-Hir on the Crozon Peninsula and, in fine weather, the Pointe de Saint-Mathieu. You then arrive in Douarnenez, a Port of Heritage Interest, before returning to Audierne along the rural roads of Cap Sizun.

An exceptionally rich natural site

Awarded the label of ‘Grand Site de France’, the Pointe du Raz is the most remarkable natural site in Finistère and perhaps in the whole of Brittany. The wide-open landscapes are home to windmills, fishing harbours and many lighthouses watching over the waters. Its 70-metre cliffs are exposed to the wil weather and are home to a unique ecosystem. This is a paradise for seabirds, and hundreds of black-legged kittiwakes and red-billed choughs nest here every spring -to find out more, stop off at the Cap Sizun Bird Reserve in Goulien or the ‘Maison de Site’ visitor centre in Plogoff.
