Since 2015, the ‘Prolongations’ performance programme, curated by Christian Alandete, has invited artists to draw inspiration from the current exhibition to create a new work. Through a blend of improvisation, evocation, reinterpretation and homage, the artists draw a thread – sometimes a tenuous one – to extend the exhibition in a performative form, following a residency in Landerneau, supported by the FHEL team.

“Andy” is a quest for identity: how do we construct ourselves, and how do we become a character?
A character is not merely a fictional construct we invent. It plays a part in the construction of the self. Identity is no longer something we possess, but something we perform, negotiate and continually transform through our relationships with others.

The ‘I’ becomes its own other. It is constructed through the connections it maintains, the gazes it receives, and the roles it takes on. The self emerges as a collage of fragments, masks, emotions and gestures. Between anonymity and hyper-visibility, a sort of game of hide-and-seek unfolds: revealing oneself, hiding, becoming someone else, then returning to oneself. “Andy” traverses this space between person and character, between who we are and the part we play. And ultimately, how can we become Andy, if Andy has already entered us?
