In the 18th and 19th centuries, the port of Pont-l'Abbé was a major trading centre. Grain, fish, potatoes and timber were traded here. Wine, salt and spices were also imported.
Today, the port is home to a number of boats and offers a pleasant stroll and a magnificent view of the bridge and the castle keep.
The bridge is one of 3 inhabited bridges in France.
