Tourelle des Perdrix
Historical sites and monuments
Maritime, Lighthouse
La Tourelle des Perdrix (literally ‘partridge tower’) can be easily seen in the sea between Ile-Tudy and Loctudy. It marks dangerous rocks at the entrance to the fishing harbour. Originally a wooden mast, then a beacon in 1886, the current 17.40 metre high tower was built in 1889 and began operating in 1918. Originally red, it was painted in its famous black and white checked pattern in 1947. Although it was replaced by red and green buoys in 2000, it has kept its 64 black and white squares thanks to Loctudy and Ile-Tudy local councils.
