Equestrian diagonals

Equibreizh in Finistère offers a whole host of possible combinations for nature lovers! Inland, set off on the trails of the Arrée Mountains, a land of granite stone where you can explore moorland, heather and gorse, admiring the stunning scenery among the hills and the mountains. You can also take a diversion towards the sweeping waters of the Aulne Estuary. As you approach Menez Hom and the sea, the landscape changes and you’re immersed in an area of outstanding beauty! Don’t miss those sections of the route that lead through the countryside, woods, forests and valleys, or the Nantes-Brest canal in the heart of the Montagnes Noires and off towards Port-de-Carhaix. This land of legends and sunken lanes will give you an unforgettable experience, and there’s also a beautiful coastal option that starts in Goulven Bay and winds its way through the Léon region. After that, you can explore our famously flamboyant parish churches, the enclos paroissiaux, before joining up with the Arrée Mountains.

La Route Trait Breizh Competition

The 1st edition of La Route Trait Breizh took place from 21st to 25th August 2024 in Finistère, and it was a great success!

This international competition brought together more than 1,000 participants and 300 cart horses from all over Europe to show off their ardour, versatility and endurance. The competitors and general public alike gladly shared their enthusiasm for Finistère in west Brittany, a fantastic playground for horse-riding: the competitions took place both inland at by the sea in Cléder and Santec, then from Commana to Brest via the Arrée Mountains and from Saint-Pol-de-Léon along the coast to Landivisiau.

The event highlighted how important the equine industry is to Finistère, as confirmed again recently by the logging work carried out throughout the winter to tackle the damage caused by storm Ciaran. Where machines had failed to clear the way, it was workhorses that made it possible to clear our trails in Finistère, ensuring that they would reopen for the summer season.
