The V7 – La Transfinistérienne

Crossing Finistère by land

The EV1 – V7 cycle route crosses Finistère from north to south over 147 km, including 94 km of Green Ways. It links two of Finistère’s maritime highlights: the corsair town of Roscoff and Concarneau, enclosed within fortified walls. From Roscoff to Port-de-Carhaix, the route is shared with the EV1, known as the Vélodyssée®, then it crosses the Montagnes Noires for a circuit on the V7.

Between the English Channel and the Atlantic

Let’s set off on the V7 through the green landscapes of Finistère, with the aim of linking the English Channel to the Atlantic! Starting in Roscoff and heading towards the historic town of Saint-Pol-de-Léon, you’ll cycle past charming hamlets and glimpse views towards the magnificent Morlaix Bay, where you can also follow a cycle route into Morlaix centre, a medieval town with a rich heritage.

The V7 route then follows the old railway lines that were once part of Brittany’s train network: in the 1800s, five lines were laid out in a star formation around Carhaix, so that every inhabitant would live within half an hour of a train station. Thus, in 1886, the Breton railway network was born, and you can still see the old stations along the route today.

Along the route, the forests and woods on either side of the Green Way give way to the moorland so characteristic of the Arrée Mountains. At Carhaix, the route crosses the Nantes-Brest Canal and winds its way towards the Montagnes Noires, before reaching Scaër, Rosporden and then a pretty Green Way leading directly to the town centre of Concarneau, with its port and historic walled town.
